  1. How do I change the size of a table in Word 2000?
    A. Click anywhere inside the table. Look for the sizing handle (a small square) at the bottom right corner of the table. Point to the sizing handle (mouse will be a double arrow) and click and drag to desired size.

  2. How can I get my table columns to fit the text in them without having to mess around with each column?
    A. There are several ways to accomplish this. If using Word 97 or 2000, you can use AutoFormat from the table menu, then select a style that you like. In Word 2000, you can also use auto-fit by following the steps below:
    STEPS:
    1. Make sure your cursor is in your table by clicking inside it.
    2. From the Table menu, point to Select and choose table, to select the table.
    3. Click on the table menu, and select Table Properties.
    4. Click on the Column tab of the table properties dialogue box.
    5. Click on the Column tab of the table properties dialogue box and "uncheck" the check box for Preferred width and click OK.

  3. Some of my text goes off the page?
    A. This type of problem may have many causes. If you are not using a table, then the usual cause is the indentation is incorrect. Click in the text where the text goes off the page, then go to the Format menu and select Paragraph. In the Paragraph box, make sure the left and right indents are set to zero, and make sure "Special" is set to none.

  4. After adding a text box, I can not get rid of the border (box)?
    A. A textbox is kind of like a graphic. If you want to remove, add, or change the line around it, you may find it easiest to use the drawing toolbar. Follow these steps:
    STEPS:
    1. Make sure the drawing toolbar is visible. If you are not sure, click the View menu and point to Toolbars. If Drawing has a check by it, you are set. If not, click it to check it.
    2. Select the textbox by clicking in it.
    3. Click on the arrow just to the right of the tool of the Drawing toolbar which looks like a fine paint brush (called Line Color) and select No Line.
    4. That should take care of it. By the way, this works the same for graphics, images, clipart, and other drawing objects.

  5. How do I navigate in a Word table, i.e. How do I get to the next line?
    A. The proper way to move around a table is to either use the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, or use the mouse and click. The Enter key will add another paragraph in the cell you are in and is often unwanted. REMEMBER UNDO!

  6. I am having problems with the borders in word 2000. When I choose a border it appears on the screen and when it is printed it cuts off the bottom border. I have tried changing margins to no avail. Any suggestions?
    A. Follow these steps to correct the problem:

    STEPS:
      1. Select Format.
      2. Select Borders & Shading.
      3. Select the Page Border tab.
      4. Click the Options button in the lower right corner.
      5. Look at the Measure From section. It probably says Edge of Page - change this to From Text.
