Windows Update It is necessary for you to make sure your system is always up-to-date. To do this you will need to run windows update. After the initial running of the updater, you can choose to have your system automatically run the updater in the background. Make sure you are connected to the Internet. Shut down all open programs. TO RUN WINDOWS UPDATE FOR THE FIRST TIME: Click on Start, then click on Programs for Windows 2000 or All Programs for Windows XP, then click on Windows Update.
This will open up your browser. On this screen click on the Scan for updates.
This will scan your system and find out what updates are required. On the left-hand side of the screen you will see a menu that looks like this:
Click on Critical Updates and Service Packs (under Pick updates to install) and select everything. Once you have selected all the updates click on Review and install updates. On the top of this page you will see a button that says Install Now - click this to begin the installation process. You might have to go through this process a couple of times in order to get all the updates necessary for your system. Be patient. Some may require special directions or a system reboot.
